Shank type and Nail Tyoe
Smooth Shank
Smooth shank nails are the most common and are often used for framing and general construction applications. They offer enough holding power for most everyday use.
Ring Shank
Ring shank nails offer superior holding power over smooth shank nails because the wood fills in the crevasse of the rings and also provide friction to help prevent the nail from backing out over time. A ring shank nail is often used in softer types of wood where splitting is not an issue.
Screw Shank
A screw shank nail is generally used in hard woods to prevent the wood from splitting while the fastener is being driven. The fastener spins while being driven (like a screw) which creates a tight groove that makes the fastener less likely to back out.
Annular Thread Shank
Annular thread is very similar to a ring shank except the rings are externally beveled which presses against the wood or sheet rock to prevent the fastener from backing out.
Coil nail material
Down time from reloading nailers can be kept to a minimum with nails collated into a coil. Designed for high-volume applications,
coil collated roofing and siding nails are available in both wire weld and plastic band collation. Plastic sheet coil nails are
used for both 0-degree and 15-degree nails. Because the plastic band exits the nailer in a single piece that is easy to dispose
of, messy job sites are eliminated. KYA offers plastic sheet coil nails in lengths from 1-1/2 to 3 inches in both steel and
stainless steel.
Wire weld collation is available for 15-degree coil nails. Lengths range from 1-1/2 to 2-3/16 inches and are available in steel as
well as 304 and 316 stainless steel, should you require a rust resistant option. Roofing and siding nails feature a round head and
either smooth or ring shank styles. Finish styles include electrogalvanized or hot dip galvanized.
